Howard Clothing and Sporting Goods
Located in downtown Shenandoah, Iowa, Howard's are a member of the National Sporting Goods Association as well as a member of the Athletic Dealers of America, a national buying group comprised of approximately 100 sporting goods stores. Membership in this group gives us greater buying power on many items, enabling us to keep our prices competitive with the larger city stores.
Company history This company was founded in 1951 by James and Gladys Howard as Howard Sporting Goods. In 1960, the Howards bought McCloy Clothing, and added Men's and Boy's Clothing to the mix, and changed the name to Howard Clothing and Sporting Goods. The store then moved to its current location in 1975. The business has had 5 locations since 1951, and all of them have been on Sheridan Avenue in downtown Shenandoah. The current owners are Denny and Darlene Howard, a son and daughter-in-law of the founders.
